What is Atopic Dermatitis?

Atopic Dermatitis is a type of skin inflammation disease which is hereditary in form. This means that this condition is incurable and tends to pass on from one generation to another. In this disease, the skin of the person becomes unbearably itchy and inflamed. It manifests in the body in form of redness, cracks, dryness, swelling, weeping, scaling and crusting. The occurrence of dryness is the main trigger of this kind of skin inflammation. This disease is found among people of all the age groups, however, it is believed to mostly affect infants and young children below the age of 5 years. In conditions where this disease runs into the members of the same family, the symptoms of this disease may never show up in young age. These alert signs may persist into the adult stage and become evident in later years of life.

The disease occurs in form of a circle which comprises of both emission and remission period. The emission period is marked by the occurrence of extremely severe flare-ups. This is the time when this disease manifests in its worse form. The emission period is followed by the remission period where the intensity of the symptoms starts alleviating naturally. This is reported to be the most bearable stage of this disease when the skin starts becoming clear on its own.
