Diagnosis of this form of eczema is based on the appearance of the skin and medical history of the patient. In most of the cases this disorder is recognized as scaly, dry and red patches. In few cases they may also appear as itchy bumps or cracked skin. Both these conditions of skin appearance also experience irritation around various body joints and appear symmetrically.
History of this disease in the family or other eczema related conditions like asthma or allergies are also studied. For a person to be diagnosed with Atopic Eczema he must be facing condition of itchy skin for the last 12 months along with other criteria. In order to diagnose this disorder people are also tested for hay fever and asthma which might be currently present or had been there in the past. The symptoms of this skin disease mainly appear in the creases areas like front of the elbows, behind the knees, around the neck and eyes and in ankles.
Thus while diagnosis, these areas must be specially checked out for the symptoms. Various trigger factors like smoke, dust, mold, laundry detergents, soaps and certain weather conditions which may contribute towards the symptoms are also taken into consideration for the determination of the disease.
