What Is Atopic Eczema?

Atopic Eczema is one of the most common forms of eczema which is an inflammatory, non contagious and pruritic skin disease. The skin of the person suffering from this problem reacts easily and abnormally to irritants, environmental allergens and various food items. During this condition the skin becomes flaky, red and itchy.

This skin disease may also become very vulnerable to the bacterial infection. Atopic Eczema generally occurs along with other atopic diseases like asthma, conjunctivitis and hay fever. Though this skin disorder can happen to any person but young children are more prone to it. Moreover it is chronic and familial disease and there is a possibility that its symptoms may increase or disappear over a period of time. In its initial stages Atopic Eczema begins on the skin area which is inflamed to redness, causes itching by scratching and small wounds into the dermis are also opened.

Further scratching of the area would result to leathery and dry appearance of the skin which will lead to crack open and larger wounds which may even weep. Various treatments are available to give relief from the symptoms of this skin disorder. The treatment may include combination of drug therapy and various prevention methods.
