It is important to avoid direct sunlight after a cosmetic surgery as it may cause huge damage to the delicate tissues. If ever you do have to go out in sun then its best to apply a lot of sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and maximum SPF 40. Higher range of SPF would not be as beneficial as they would again block the pores. One should cover face with scarf. Wearing a hat would be recommended.
Sunglasses are a must to avoid sunlight on your eyes and the delicate skin near eyes. Whenever you step outside you should carry these items as nothing causes more damage to skin than UV radiations in skin and pollution. Direct Sunlight tans the skin by pigmenting it. Skin in its inner layers consists of cells responsible for melanin production.
Ultra violet rays in sunlight affects these cells and makes it produce more melanin resulting in skin tan, if care isn’t taken, skin burns may occur. If skin produces more than normal melanin it can result in a condition called Melasma involving dark patches on skin. One should take as much care of your skin as possible after the surgery at least for the first few weeks after surgery. |
