Can Boils Be Prevented?

There are several options that a patient can consider to help prevent boils from appearing.  Using an antibacterial soaps on a regular basis and performing good hygiene helps to avoid the nasty bacteria from builds up the patient’s skin.  This helps to reduce the risk of a patient’s hair follicles from becoming inflamed, infected, and increasing the chances of boils forming.  If a patient’s hair follicles continue to become inflamed and irritated, using an abrasive brush while in the shower might help to break up all those oil plugs, including the build up that is around their arm or thigh hair follicles.

When a hair follicle in the buttock section becomes irritated and inflamed, you will want to try to avoid putting pressure to the pilonidal cysts.  Using regular soap with hot water can help to keep the area clean and dry.

Surgeries may be necessary for certain types of boils.  The pilondial cyst that continues to reoccur may have to be surgically lanced.  These operations are usually performed in an operating room.  The cyst’s outer shell will be removed and so that the boil will be able to be cleared.
