Warts are caused by the virus called human papillomavirus (HPV) which can spread from one person to another and can also spread from one part of the body to another. There are more than 63 genetically different types of human papillomavirus .This virus enters the skin through breaks and generally thrives in those places which are warm and moist.
Thus these viruses are generally associated with locker rooms where there is skin contact with the wet floors where other individuals have been walking and in public showers. The time of incubation i.e. the time when virus is contracted till it appears as a wart can range from 1 to 8 months. There virus causing warts can spread from one part of the body to other through several ways like sucking fingers, shaving of legs or face, scratching or biting a wart and biting fingernails. Moreover when a person with wet or damaged skin comes in contact with rough surfaces are likely to get infected with this virus. Though warts can appear on any parts of the body, but they are generally found on hands, knees, elbows and ankles. Warts can happen to any person, but individuals who have low immune system and are under the age of 30 are at higher risk of having them. |
