What is Dermatitis? |
Dermatitis, often referred as Eczema, is a kind of skin inflammation characterized by intense itching and appearance of red rashes. It is an umbrella term used for many diseases in which the key symptom is the inflammation of the skin. This disease may be acute, chronic and sometimes sub-acute in form, depending on its severity. In most of the cases, the acute episodes in form of intense flare ups are followed by remissions, also called the quieter phase. In the acute dermatitis, itching is observed to be the predominant symptom which can become utterly uncomfortable for the sufferer. Itching is then followed by the appearance of redness which occurs due to the increased flow of blood in the affected areas. Further, the blood vessels leak certain cells and fluid that collect in form of blisters on the skin. |
