Can Scabies Spread?

When a person has scabies, they can be spread by coming in contact with someone that is infected.  Not only can scabies be spread from direct contact; however, an infected person can spread through a person’s belongings, bed linens, and towels.

Scabies can spread throughout numerous family members that are in a household all at once.  Another person might have the scabies before they have any type of symptoms.

Scabies are extremely vulnerable to their atmosphere.  Under certain conditions, scabies mites can live for 2-3 days.  Spreading these mites can be by making close contact with another person.  It is very rare that a person can transfer scabies by shaking another person’s hand, or by hanging another coat by an infected person.  However, having sexual contact can putting your partner at risk of catching this skin condition.  This is the most common way that people transmit this scabies.
