What Side Effects Can There Be with Microdermabrasion?

The side-effects associated with Microdermabrasion are minimal which evade naturally without the need of any medication. Patients may encounter skin irritation right after the completion of a treatment. Further, redness, minor rashes and swelling are some of the potential side effects observed post treatment.

These side effects are more likely to appear when the treatment is used in conjunction with other intense care products that are rich in chemicals like alpha hydroxy or retinol. People with sensitive skin may experience alteration in the color balance of the area subjected to the treatment. In these cases, dark and sometimes, light colored patches may become visible and lead to unevenness of the skin tone, though for a temporary basis. Pigmentation and appearance of scars are other common side effects of this treatment.

Patients who take treatments for the elimination of acne and pimples on their face may experience a mild side effect in form of dark spots on the face. This is a temporary side effect and does not call for a medical intervention. It is also likely, that the person experiences the development of acne as one of the potential side effects of the treatment. The appearance of acne takes place because the treatment forces up the bacteria resting the lower layers of the skin.
