What can be done to treat Spider Veins?

There are various ways of treating spider veins which depends upon the symptoms, locations and the size of the veins. Sclerotherapy is the most common form of treatment where a chemical solution is injected into these veins. This solution or saline leads to the swelling of the veins and the formation of the internal scar tissue which seal and shuts them permanently.

For treating newly formed spider veins , additional therapy  may be required as Sclerotherapy only treats the existing veins and do not prevent the new ones from forming. Another way of treating these veins is Laser treatments where the pulses from the laser lead to the sealing and the closing of the veins which ultimately fades them in some time. Electrodessication is also another way of sealing the affected veins through electric current. Phlebectomy is the way of treatment where the effected veins are removed from the legs. Stripping of the veins and surgical ligation are only considered when spider veins are large and not superficial. Besides these other treatment options are also available which include leg elevation while sleeping and sitting, intake of supplements, wearing compression stockings and others. Proper diet and maintaining healthy weight also contribute towards the treatment of spider veins.
