What Types of Treatment Are There for Dermatitis?

The predominant goal of all the treatments for Dermatitis is to relieve the patient from the discomforts of inflammation, itching and other worse conditions. An ideal treatment involves both the alterations in one’s lifestyle as well as the usage of the right medications. Keeping the skin well-hydrated through the application of medicinal moisturizing lotions is the basic treatment for removing the dry patches on the skin. Avoiding over-bathing is another step towards alleviating the symptoms of this disease. In case the inflammatory reactions are severe, Corticosteroid creams can be used. These creams are available in varied concentrations, mild, medium and strong, which must be applied as per the severity of the disease. In order to bring the itching under control oral antihistamines may be prescribed. Some of the most effective antihistamines are diphenhydramine and hydroxyzine. It is important to note that the lifetime usage of corticosteroid creams and oral antihistamines is strictly discouraged owing to their harmful side effects on the skin.

At last, there are few topical medications in the form of creams that are typically used for suppressing the immune system. However, there have been several warnings against the use of these drugs owing to their irreparable after effects. Thus, the usage of these topical medications is suggested as the second-line treatment when the primary medicine fails to show its effects.
