Warts are the skin growths which are caused by the infection of the virus called human papillomavirus (HPV). This virus infects the top layer of the skin and generally enters the body through the area of the broken skin. In general most of the warts go on their own within few months or years. Warts can appear on any part of the body and they are usually common among young adults and children. There are five main types of warts which include common warts, planter warts, flat warts, periungual warts and filiform warts.
Warts are contagious in nature and spread from person to another and even from one part of the body to other. After the contact with HPV virus it takes around two to nine months for the wart to appear on the skin. Warts can be in various sizes and shapes and they may appear either as flat and smooth or as bump with a rough surface. Tiny blood vessels are grown into the core of the warts so as to supply blood to them. Various types of methods are available for treating warts which include salicylic acid preparations, nonprescription freezing methods, duct tape, surgery, photodynamic therapy and electrocautery. |
